Absent: Bill U., Chris S.

1. Updates:

  • Array printing update
    • Computer that controls printer is replaced and is running.  Nilo coming in Saturday to print arrays.
  • NEO deployment next week
    • Roman to paint cable tomorrow (Wed).  Clean bungees, mooring assembly still to do.
    • Will use Gordon's CTD to test the new memory wipe method we will try on the deployment next week.
    • Must ohm-out the cable.
    • Julie saw a problem where carousel lost it's position; Brent and Scott both looked at and could find nothing wrong.  Restarted.  Standard PCR curves looking good.
    •  Moe PCR's seem inhibited; Julie going to sample less (< 1L) to see if that brings up the signal.  Chris P suggested altering pressure differential to try less hard to get 1L if water is mucky.  Much discussion about how to deal with PCR inhibition.
    • Puck cleaning continues for this deployment and for Gordon.  Arrays won't be ready until after weekend, so canning not until Monday
    • Melancon to come out Monday AM for filming.
    • puck cleaning continues thanks to Julie and Chris P.
    • getting MSDS on the anti-fouling paint from Patrick Whaling.  No one really seems to know how toxic, so we will become the informed ones.
    • ERROR TRACKING:  Kevin has nifty way of culling log files of all errors during a deployment.  It does not catch the email traffic or solutions on how the errors occurred, but noting the failures is a start in our journey towards deployment experts.
  • MFB training
    • Chris P has readied MFB10; MFB2 will also be used in training, but needs PCR module replaced.  Cheri tasked with that when she returns from McLane.
    • Looks like 6 people coming for June 7 MFB training.  2 Stanford, 2 SCCWRP, 1 MLM, 1 Cawthron..  Others may float in and out during the week.  Must figure out WHERE this training will occur.
  • D-ESP preparations--Gordon
    • Chris P has started making reagents.  PCR reagents from Patty to arrive today.
    • Must check with Brent t see that Gordon has correct config file.
    • Wed PM/Thurs AM will have reagents on Gordon
    • Core testing to start next Weds.
  • Bruce forensics
    • Waste container does NOT appear to be full.  No smoking gun on error.  When we pulled from air1, it behaved like we were sucking fluid.  Worked well from air2, but would not work from air1, so we aborted mission.  Now it's working ;  does not seem to be a 'tilt' issue...
  • John R. Paper progress
    • Writing continues.
    • Possible places of submission:  Harmuful Algae, L+O Methods, Marine Biology Progress Series
  • Chris P. paper progress
    • nothing this week.  Too busy deployment/training/Gordon preparations.
  • BioSpace deployment in October
    • John R. has a tube of rhodamine that will be in water to track current movements.  We need to test in ESP at anticipated dilutions to see it's effect on our chemistry and on the PCR module.  Chris P. will look into emission spectra
